What are the Akashic Records?
The Akashic Records are the energetic archive of every soul: a living record of every choice made, every pattern held, every lesson encoded, and every possibility available to you.
Akasha is a Sanskrit word usually translated as ether, or space. The Records are that field. Every choice you have made, every pattern you are still holding, every lesson encoded in you, all of it is stored there, and it can be read.
I am Mel Cobian. I channel the Records for creators and founders. What follows is the explanation I would give you sitting across from you, whether you came here looking for a reading or looking to read the Records yourself.
How an Akashic reading actually works.
An Akashic reading is not a prediction, and the reason is simple. The future is not fixed, so there is nothing sitting there to predict. The way I have always explained it, you are living in your present moment and you are also, quietly, still living in the past. That is the good news. What happened is close enough to heal, and the future moves the moment you do.
Think of the last time you already knew the answer to a hard decision before anyone said it out loud. Someone finally named it, and your shoulders dropped. Your body knew before the sentence finished.
The truth is we store a lot of those knowings. Not only from this lifetime. From parallel ones too, some of them lived here and some of them nowhere near here, depending on your lineage and where your soul actually originates. The Records hold all of it.
That is the whole mechanism. When I open the Records on your behalf, I am not interpreting your future and I am not the source of the information. I am a translator. I am channeling what your higher self already knows and has been waiting for you to receive.
How it arrives changes with the person being read and with the channel reading them. I have received the Records as image, as sound, as language, and most often as something I feel in my body well before I have words for it. Seeing, hearing, feeling and knowing are all doors. Everyone has one that opens easier than the rest.
Which is also why a reading does not require your belief. The information is there either way. What I ask for is your intention, brought from the heart, and your willingness to receive. Come open and you will feel the difference in your body before your mind has time to decide what it thinks.
The first time someone read my Records, it felt like home.
I was asked what I would like to receive, and I said, I am open to receiving. The human in me had a million questions, let me be honest about that. Some part of me trusted my higher self to hand me exactly what I was ready for, so I got out of the way.
What I remember is not the information. It is that the woman reading for me held the whole thing with honor and reverence. She treated it as sacred and she treated the divine as real and present in the room, and that is what let me receive any of it. I have come to understand a reading as an activation. The amount of energy that moves, the amount of soul remembrance that surfaces, changes something.
Nothing about my life was different when I stood up. What was different was the energy in my heart. I had just heard things I already somehow knew and had never been able to say out loud. Someone said them for me, and the energy that was already living in me finally made sense. It felt like home.
Your higher self and the Akashic Records.
This is my own experience, so take it as that. If ascension came with a curriculum, connection with your higher self would sit near the front of it.
By higher self I mean something practical: your intuition, and the subtle energy bodies most people feel long before they have language for them. The more fluently you hear that, the more you can read the energy actually in the Records instead of reading your own noise back to yourself. A good part of what I teach in my spaces is that connection, so that walking into a field like the Akashic Records is not the first time you have ever tried to listen.

The Akashic Records are old. The idea of a complete record of every soul appears across traditions, from Vedic teaching to the theosophists to Edgar Cayce, who called it the Book of Life. None of it is mine.
Most practitioners keep their sources vague, and vague sources are how this work gets dismissed. So here is mine, plainly. I trained through The Little Soul School, and my practice is a studied blend of the teachers who shaped this field:
- Edgar Cayce, who brought the Records into the Western conversation and called them the Book of Life.
- Linda Howe, whose Pathway Prayer Process made access teachable and opened the Records to a generation of practitioners.
- Maureen St. Germain, whose work grounds the Records in daily practice and discernment.
- The Little Soul School, where I deepened my own foundation and trained in this work directly.
- Debbie Solaris, whose material extends the Records into the galactic: star lineages and the larger field your soul has moved through.
You deserve to know what a practitioner has actually studied before you hand them an hour inside your field. Ask anyone you book with the same question.
How to access your own Records and start asking your own questions.
Before the steps, one honest note about how you get in, since this is the place where the teachers I respect most do not agree. The first form I learned was the Pathway Prayer, through Linda Howe. It is easy to find online, and her books are still the teaching material I recommend. I use a prayer. Saying it is how I enter ceremony. It moves me out of ordinary time and into the posture this work asks for.
Here is the less popular part, and I want to say it carefully, since I hold real reverence for tradition and for the practitioners who keep it exactly as it was handed to them. Some teachers hold that intention alone is enough. I have tested that, and in my experience it works. It matters most for anyone carrying religious trauma, where a prayer in that form lands as a trigger long before it lands as a doorway. There are alternative prayers. There is also just your intention. What the field answers is the vibration underneath it.
And if you have been working with your higher self, you can always go directly to source. God, the divine, whatever name is true for you. Ask for guidance, then begin.
The Records are yours. You do not need me to begin. Here is the practice, complete.
- Ground first. Sit somewhere quiet. Feet on the floor, breath low in the belly, until the noise settles. The Records open through coherence, not effort. A scattered nervous system asks scattered questions.
- Set the intention. Keep this simple. Say it plainly, out loud or in writing: I am opening my own records, in my highest good, for what I am ready to receive. Prayer or no prayer, that is the whole move. The field answers your intention, not your vocabulary.
- Ask in the open form. Questions that begin with what or how open the field: what is this season teaching me, what is underneath this decision, how do I move with what I know. Questions that begin with when or should close it, since they hand your authority to the answer.
- Write without editing. Take what comes, even when it arrives as an image or a feeling rather than a sentence. Read it back the next day. The transmission often lands in layers, and what sounded like noise on day one reads as instruction on day two.

Are the Akashic Records real?
The Records are not a physical library you can visit, and they don’t require belief to work with. They are a way of describing something most people have already felt: that your patterns, your knowing, and your history live somewhere deeper than the thinking mind. Whether you frame that as an energetic field, the subconscious, or the soul, the experience of a reading is the same. You hear something you already knew, and your body confirms it before your mind does.

What questions should I ask the Records?
The Records answer the question you actually ask, so form matters. Open with what or how: what is this season teaching me, what pattern is ready to be released, how do I move with this decision. Bring the decision you cannot resolve, and ask what is underneath it.
How is an Akashic reading different from tarot or psychic work?
Tarot is a tool; psychic work varies by practitioner. An Akashic reading is specifically channeled guidance from your higher self, using the Records as the field. The information is yours, already stored in your soul’s design. I am a channel, not the source.
How do the Akashic Records relate to human design?
Human design is a map calculated once from your birth data, describing how your energy is built to move. The Records are a living field read in real time, speaking to your current season. The chart does not change; the conversation does. The full comparison is here.
Do the Akashic Records predict the future?
No. The Records don’t predict, they remember. What comes through is the trajectory your current alignment is already creating. The future is not fixed: it is your frequency made form. A reading shows you what that frequency is calling in, and what is ready to shift, which leaves the choice where it belongs, with you.
