Your business is running on your language.
Neuro-linguistic programming is the study of how language, internal imagery, and attention shape behavior, and how changing the pattern changes the outcome.

That is the whole definition, no mystique required. For a founder it means something specific: the sentences you run about yourself are not commentary on the business. They are instructions to it.
I am Mel Cobian, a Master NLP Practitioner on top of a background in psychology and human science, and I work with founders and creators. This page gives you the mechanism and a complete practice. Nothing held back.
The strategy layer obeys the identity layer.
Watch a founder who says I am bad at sales get on a sales call. The voice tightens on the price. The pause after the offer gets filled with a discount nobody asked for. No strategy failed there. A sentence executed.
This is why the fourth funnel template and the fifth pricing framework change nothing. Every tactic routes through the operator’s self-concept before it reaches the market, and the self-concept always wins the tie. You cannot out-strategize a sentence you rehearse a hundred times a day.
I learned this in the gym before I learned it in NLP training. As a trainer I assessed clients, told them what was overperforming and underperforming, and gave them the why. And I still could not do their reps. Same here. I can show you the pattern and hand you the tools, and the reps that change the identity are yours. What NLP does is make sure your reps are pointed at the actual muscle.

Five sentences that run businesses.
Each of these is a program, not a fact. Notice which one your body recognizes.
- “I am bad at sales.” Runs as: discount early, follow up never.
- “My people cannot afford more.” Runs as: pricing from your own ceiling, not their value.
- “I am not ready yet.” Runs as: one more certification instead of one more offer.
- “If I am visible, I will be judged.” Runs as: posting sparingly, softening the voice, sounding like everyone.
- “I have to do it all myself.” Runs as: wearing every hat except the one that liberates you.
Reprogramming, in four moves.
This is the same architecture I use inside my containers. It is yours. Run it on one sentence at a time.
- Catch the sentence. For three days, write down every I am, I always, and I can’t that you say or think about your work. Do not fix anything yet. You are taking inventory of the code, and most founders have never once seen theirs written down.
- Interrogate it like evidence. Take one sentence and ask: is this true, or is it rehearsed? Then find the counter-evidence, and be specific. I am bad at sales dissolves badly against a list of every client who said yes. The mirror does the work an argument cannot.
- Write the replacement in the present tense. Not an affirmation you do not believe. A sentence the counter-evidence already supports: I make honest offers and let people decide. The nervous system rejects fiction and accepts testimony. Build the new sentence out of what has actually happened.
- Install it with a rep, today. Identity is installed behaviorally, not verbally. Same day, take one action only the new sentence would take: send the offer, state the price without the pause, post the thing in your real voice. One rep is worth a hundred recitations, since now the new sentence has evidence too.
Is NLP legitimate?
Parts of NLP outran the research years ago, and a practitioner who will not say that out loud is selling you something. So here it is, out loud.
What holds up, in practice and in the overlap with established behavioral science, is the core I actually use: language shapes perception. Attention shapes state. Rehearsed patterns become identity. And precise questioning can interrupt a pattern the mind has stopped noticing. That is the toolkit. The rest I leave to the people who enjoy arguing about it.
And to be equally straight: this is behavior and communication work, not therapy. If what surfaces when you run the practice needs clinical care, the sovereign move is to get it. The two are complements, not substitutes.
Asked, answered.
What is NLP, in plain language?
Neuro-linguistic programming is the study of how language, internal imagery, and attention shape behavior, and how changing the pattern changes the outcome. In practice: notice the exact sentences you run about yourself and your work, trace what those sentences make you do, and deliberately install patterns that serve what you are building instead.
Is NLP evidence-based?
Honestly: parts of it outran the research, and a practitioner who will not say that is selling you something. What holds up in practice, and overlaps with established work in cognitive and behavioral science, is the core: language shapes perception, attention shapes state, rehearsed patterns become identity, and precise questioning can interrupt a pattern the mind has stopped noticing. Those are the parts worth using, and the parts a good practitioner works with.
Why does NLP matter for founders specifically?
A business is a decision engine run by one nervous system: yours. Pricing, visibility, sales conversations, and hiring all route through the operator’s self-concept before they reach the market. Founders usually try to fix the strategy layer while the identity layer quietly overrides it. NLP works at the layer where the override lives.
Can I learn NLP without hiring anyone?
Yes. The four-move practice above is complete, not a preview. Run it honestly for a month and you will change something real. A practitioner is useful the way a trainer is useful: a clear mirror shortens the path, and some patterns are genuinely hard to see from inside them.
How does NLP connect to your other work?
In my containers, NLP is one movement of a larger architecture: identity installation alongside nervous system regulation and energetic work. It is woven through The Becoming, my sovereign identity masterclass, and it is the grounded half of the bridge my Akashic work is the other half of. The Records show the direction. NLP installs the identity that can walk it.
Is NLP a replacement for therapy?
No. NLP as used in business mentorship is behavior and communication work, not treatment for trauma or mental health conditions. If what surfaces needs clinical care, the sovereign move is to get it. The two are complements, not substitutes.
The sentence you caught yourself in just now? That is the work.
Everything on this page runs without me. And if there is a part of you saying I am ready to rebuild the identity underneath what I am building, that is what The Becoming is for. The letters below are where I write in between.
